Client Feedback

We had our custom home designed by Ken Bartels in 1990. We had interviewed several architects and chose Ken because of his openness to our ideas and the ease of working with him. We began our design by giving Ken a textual description of our specifications. Ken's first floor plan exactly met our needs. We spent approximately 3 months working out the details. After Ken completed the working drawing, he submitted them to the Architectural Committee on our behalf and was able to make the required changes while still retaining the basic design of our home. Ken supervised the construction phase and worked well with our builder. He was on the site daily and corrected problems early to keep our project on schedule and save additional costs. We are very pleased with the home and highly recommend Ken Bartels to anyone considering a similar project.

It is my pleasure to reference Mr. Bartels. This gentleman was instrumental in the development of my residence in Pinnacle Peak; a 4500 sq. ft. contemporary southwest single family home. His design was very sensitive to the desert environment and sits well on a rather difficult site. In addition, his plans were extremely detailed thus allowing for accurate bids and a project that came in on budget. Personally, I found Mr. Bartels very pleasant to work with and very timely regarding his obligations to this project. I am happy to give Mr. Bartels my highest recommendation and am confident that you will enjoy working with him as much as I have.

Mr. Bartels created our retirement dream home located in Sonoran Highlands. He used the typography of our estate size property to encompass the city lights, natural washes, Pinnacle Peak and the McDowell Mountains as part of our everyday experience. Mr. Bartels then created a home full of vistas, curved walls, high ceilings, large windows, seven fireplaces (each distinctive), hardwood floors throughout and private patios. He gave us a guest wing separate from the entrance hall, entertaining great room, dining room and master bedroom suite. We have three staircases, a Rysso-Peters designed gourmet kitchen and dining area, walk-in pantry and wine cellar, separate his and hers studies and service room. All are part of this 6000-sq. ft. living area and 8600-sq. ft. under roof "labor of love". Mr. Bartels is extremely talented, easy to work with as a partner, creative and not afraid to take a chance. He works hand in hand with the general contractor and the subs. We cannot count the number of times that he made unannounced visits to our home during the various states of construction. Our house is an extension of his talent. Several of the sub-contractors have had professional photographs taken for publication. We would not consider building again without Ken as our architect and partner. We would be most happy to share with you his work, "our home", Casa de Chared.

Mr. Ken Bartels of Kenneth C. Bartels & Associates is the architect on our hillside home on Moon Mountain. The site, being on a hillside and with our specific requirement, proposed many challenging conditions. Ken worked extremely hard on the design and with his intuitive creativity, designed our dream home beyond our expectations. Ken's patience and diligence, made the design phase of our project enjoyable and exciting. After the plans were completed and the project put out for bid, many subcontractors commented that the drawings were very clear and detailed. This made the construction phase easy to manage and coordinate. When we did have questions, Ken never failed to immediately address our request or make a special visit to the site. Ken's professionalism and creativity are exemplary and we would highly recommend Ken Bartels to anyone designing a home.

This letter is in support of Ken Bartels and relates our experience with Ken as a quality architect with excellent service. A general contractor first mentioned Ken's name to us as we were considering different style homes. Our general contractor told us that Ken could provide us with the type of home that would meet our artistic expectations and do it in a timely and feasible fashion. All of our expectations were indeed met in that Ken was highly accessible to our questions as homebuilders for the first time. He was greatly involved with the project, inspecting the site and work often. He understood our aesthetic needs. There were several problems that he caught on the construction site, which avoided significant problems and great expense on our part because of his timely involvement. It is without reservation that we recommend Ken Bartels as an excellent creative architect.

Sincerely yours, Trey and Jany Matson
